Sebastien Borget, the co-founder and COO of The Sandbox, in an interview with Kensuke Amo, Managing Executive Officer of Coincheck discuss how their partnership will benefit the Web3 and metaverse users in Japan.
Sebastien shares that Coincheck will be a gateway for Japanese users to access The Sandbox metaverse platform.
Earlier this year, Coincheck and Animoca Brands announced a partnership to launch LAND NFTs in Japan. Coincheck listed The Sandbox’s LAND ERC-721 NFTs on its NFT marketplace to bring Japanese consumers into the metaverse platform.
“As NFTs and blockchain penetrate society in the near future, real space will gradually merge with virtual space. At that time, The Sandbox will be a must-have place for everyone present at the time. We look forward to further collaboration and providing it to Japanese users!” said Kensuke Amo in a press release.
Coincheck’s Amo sat down with COO Sebastien to discuss the different aspects of The Sandbox game as a metaverse platform.
Coincheck OASIS TOKYO on The Sandbox
During the announcement, Coincheck also announced it is building a metaverse city, OASIS TOKYO, on the acquired LAND, based on the “near future city in 2035.” The Japanese marketplace plans on connecting its platform with The Sandbox so that Japanese users can easily access the metaverse through its marketplace.
Oasis Tokyo will include different facilities such as art museums, stages, and locations where players can socialize, play, and compete with other players. In fact, this metaverse city will be a symbolic representation of Japan.
Currently, Oasis Tokyo is still in the development process. In the interview, Amo asked about what The Sandbox hopes to achieve with this valuable partnership.
“Coincheck makes it easier for Japanese users to access “SAND”, which means they can now participate and invest in the future of “The Sandbox,” said Sebastien. “Given Japan’s long history of creativity and innovation, this bridge is great news for The Sandbox and Web3 as a whole.”

Coincheck lists SAND token
Coincheck has officially listed the native token of The Sandbox, SAND, on its exchange platform.
“The listing of “SAND” in Japan is good news not only for “The Sandbox” but also for Web3 in Japan as a whole. There is an advantage that Japanese users will have easier access to the ecosystem of “The Sandbox”,” Sebastien explained.
Japanese fans can now build their careers, start businesses, or buy things on The Sandbox using SAND tokens without any complications.

How can Japan benefit from The Sandbox?
While discussing The Sandbox, Sebastien shared that the metaverse game is built to empower creators and players by giving them the freedom to explore various possibilities.
“Japan is an early adopter of crypto assets and a market where many innovations have been born,” he said.
Like Coincheck, many other platforms are joining The Sandbox seeing the massive revenue it has generated in the span of five years.
As the co-founder of The Sandbox, Sebastien said that the game mainly focuses on “value creation and a reward system, putting the community and users first,” instead of just making it between creators and players, which will benefit Japan deeply.
The Sandbox is an open-source metaverse that offers 95% return from the revenue to its community and where everyone can build, trade, and earn money. Currently, The Sandbox has over 300 brands, 3 million registered wallet users, and 20,500 LAND owners who are contributing to the metaverse platform, either as a creator or a player.
Sebastien sees Japanese culture and the creative industry as an important inclusion to The Sandbox. “We also hope to create opportunities for Japanese creators and LAND owners to collaborate with creators from other cultures and countries and demonstrate their talents,” he said.
The Sandbox x Coincheck collaboration is good news for Japanese creators and players who are interested in expanding their careers in the Web3 industry.
