“All you need is a little bit of magic.” Enter the enchanting world of NFTs as Disney introduces you to a century-long legacy of its magical moments, stories, and characters.
Surely, The Walt Disney Company is ready to explore infinity and beyond the world of digital collectibles and into the metaverse with its IP. Just as Walt Disney said, “Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.”
Since its launch in 2021, Disney NFTs have become a worldwide phenomenon, now these digital collectibles are worth millions of dollars. Here’s everything you know about this collection in 2023.
Disney is a whole different world that holds some of the most precious and legendary figures. It has a century-long history of storytelling, animation, and entertainment, and NFTs are the perfect way to showcase them forever.
In short, these digital assets are the best thing that happened to Web3 fans and Disney collectors.
Being the house of Marvel Studios, Pixar, 20th Century Studios, 20th Century Animation, Searchlight Pictures, and Lucasfilm, the company is one of the pioneering American companies that showcased the true essence of entertainment by airing some of the best productions.
Ever since its establishment in 1923 as Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio, the company has always kept up with the latest technological advancement and adopted them wherever possible.
The same goes for the newest blockchain technology that introduced non-fungible tokens aka NFTs.
Disney enters the NFT world
NFTs are more than just giving digital ownership to buyers; it is also a way to pay respect and hold the legacy of the greatest inventions by turning them into digital assets, and Disney understood this concept quite well.
In an interview with New York Times, former CEO Bob Iger talked about Disney’s vast collection of intellectual property that would bring good revenue to the company if it made its own digital collectibles. He said, “When you think about all the copyright and trademarks, [the] characters Disney has. The NFT possibilities, they’re extraordinary.”
Last year, NFTs became a digital craze when various global brands like Nike, McDonald’s, Ray-Ban, etc. introduced their NFT projects.
Seeing the increasing worth of the Web3 market, Disney also stepped its foot into the blockchain world as one of the pioneering entertainment companies by launching its Web3 projects centering around the main characters.
Disney officially partners with VeVe
Unlike other brands, Disney decided to go all out by partnering with the NFT mobile app called VeVe. VeVe is an ECOMI blockchain-based marketplace partner with big international brands like Warner Bros, Capcom, CBS, and Cartoon Network.
With over 350,000 active users and over 600,000 NFTs sold, the VeVe app is a unique environment-friendly NFT marketplace that has built-in Augmented Reality. This means a user can view their NFT in the real world, similar to how the Pokemon app works. The app also offers a Showroom to users where they can display and access their favorite collectibles.
VeVe has been constantly involved in Disney’s every NFT project released up-to-date. Before Disney, VeVe was a partner of Marvel and released many exclusive NFT collections based on Marvel Comics and characters. Later, Disney officially announced VeVe as its exclusive partner.
So, now you can only buy and access NFT drops on VeVe. The app is officially available on global iOS and Android stores where users can mint, sell, and trade them.
Top Disney NFT collections in 2023
Like its exclusive high-quality movies, the collectibles are also designed by some of the best digital artists and designers in the industry.
Here are some of the best collections you should know about:
- Golden Moments
- The Mickey Mouse NFT Collection
- Mickey and Friends
- Marvel NFT collections
- Pixar Pals
- Disney Villains
- Young Avengers
For the first time and forever: Golden Moments
Golden Moments is a special NFT project by Disney that carries the true legacy of the company’s history and achievements.
The NFTs are 3D-based gold statues showcasing characters, stories, and moments from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and more. This collection is an exquisite blend of art, storytelling, and technology into oneness with the color gold.
Simpsons is the first Disney NFT
The Simpsons NFTs were Disney’s first-ever branded collection for Golden Moments launched in November 2021. These 18,666 NFTs feature Homer & Bart and Bart’s Skateboard in the form of gold statues that were raked to bring around $7.2 million in revenue to VeVe. The buyers also received a free 3-month subscription to Disney+ TV from VeVe.
After the launch, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars dropped their own Web3 projects. Each collection consisted of 18,666 collectibles, other than Pixar which only dropped 16,666 NFTs in total.
Golden Moments range from Uncommon traits to Ultra Rare traits that are ranked on the VeVe marketplace. The worth of each collectible is determined by what rarity trait a buyer owns.
The collection was officially launched in a Blind box format meaning that buyers would only know what statue they received after minting. Each digital piece was set at the listing price of $60, which later doubled in the secondary market.
The worth increased with time as people saw the beautiful 3D artwork of their favorite characters showcased as a non-fungible token that they could own.
The most prominent collection of Golden Moments is a special limited edition drop of 4,333 gold statues of Walt Disney holding Mickey Mouse’s hand at a flat price of $333.
This NFT drop is Disney’s most valuable digital collectible as the prices peaked at around $6,400 in the secondary market. Early buyers were quite lucky in buying the rare Golden Moments because now they are the most desired assets for investors and collectors.
Golden Moments is not just a single collection as the company keeps dropping new golden statues from time to time.
Just recently, the company dropped a Valentine’s Day Collection in February 2022 and Disney Duos on March 19, 2022, featuring characters from Beauty and the Beast, Winnie the Pooh, The Lion King, and many more.
For Disney, Golden Moments holds a special place as it carries its creator’s long legacy and this might also hint at its upcoming plans to enter the metaverse.
The Mickey Mouse NFT Collection
The Mickey Mouse NFT Collection celebrates Disney’s first-ever synchronized sound cartoon to air on national television.
This collection holds a special place as it showcases some of the best moments within the cartoon that are engraved as memories for almost all of the 1900s generation, and digital collectibles are the best way to showcase the true feelings attached to the original Mickey Mouse.
Steamboat Willie is the first series from The Mickey Mouse collection that features digital collectibles of Mickey’s first public appearance in black and white holding the wheel of the ship.
Three NFTs within this collection, namely, A Jaunty Jig is Mickey happily riding his ship, A Happy Whistle is Mickey whistling while riding the ship, and All Together, Now! is Mickey dancing with movement and sound.
Each collectible is based on its rarity trait distribution from common to ultra rare with a different number of editions so that many people can be part of the Mickey universe by minting this collection.
The 40,000 Mickey Mouse NFT collection was launched on December 22, 2021, in a blind box at a mint price of $60.
After that, the company released the second series based on The Band Concert, the first-ever Mickey short film produced in Technicolor.
Just as how the world witnessed colored animation for the first time, this series is a burst of colors into the world of Mickey in the form of digital collectibles.
The original animated series is a humorous script about Mickey struggling to perform in front of an audience with his friends due to various distractions.
Just like how you laughed over the humorous tactics pulled by Mickey and his friends, Disney NFT captures the essence of the childhood cartoon by featuring Bandleader Mickey collectibles, the Mickey Mouse NFT Collection – Series 2.
The three digital figures are designed in stages of Mickey trying to perform The Band Concert. Let’s Begin! is a 3D Mickey signaling his crew to start performing. Focus, Please! is Mickey’s failed attempt to conduct the concert. The Finale! is Mickey cheerfully conducting the concert while standing on the great animators’ desks at Walt Disney Animation Studios with movement and sounds.
These three collectibles have the same rarity trait distribution as the Steamboat Willie series. The collection was in a blind box that went live on April 2, 2022, at a fixed price of around $60 on the VeVe app.
Mickey and Friends
Launched on 29 January 2022, Mickey Mouse and Friends went live on the VeVe app and instantly sold on the marketplace within days of its launch. Like other collections, Mickey Mouse and Friends feature some of the best moments and favorite characters from the series.
The first series comprised 60,000 units of interactive cards featuring Mickey Mouse and his legendary friends, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Pluto, and Goofy.
Unlike other collections, Mickey Mouse and Friends were designed by two famous digital artists, Morgane Keesling and Naty Kosloff, who hand-painted the collectibles.
The digital figures are perfect artworks that precisely enclose the originality of the cartoons to give out the same feeling as one felt when one watched the series as a kid.
Based on the Medium post, Mickey Mouse and Friends are designed with a lot of precision by the artists as each room represents the true aura of a specific character.
The card was made using lenticular technology so that viewers can zoom in and see the details of the hand-printed artwork. They also have custom music and a special autograph on the back of the card.
Mickey Mouse and Friends were also minted on the VeVe app as blind boxes that opened to reveal a unique rarity, sold at a fixed price of $40 for each card.
Marvel collections
Before Disney released its official Web3 initiatives, Marvel was the first sub-company that released its comics collection on the VeVe app.
The marketplace announced it would hold a Marvel month by releasing various artworks from Marvel Comics.
The Spider-Man collection was the first-ever NFT project launched on August 7, 2021, from the August special. This collection featured five 3D statues of Spiderman ranging from common to rare rarity traits.
Marvel Mightys
Marvel launched another project called Marvel Mightys Series featuring Captain America, Spider-Man, Eternals, Deadpool, Captain Carter, and Fantastic Four.
They seem tiny in animation but they’re mightier than the original ones. Some of the famous drops from this collection include Deadpool Lady, Dogpool, Ghost-Spider, Spider-Woman, Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, and many more. Each collectible is sold for around $60.
The collection still has ongoing drops from time to time for different superheroes each season.
Marvel Digital Comics
Following the launch of the two collections, Marvel launched Marvel Digital Comics as well. These are readable digital assets of some of the exclusive Marvel comic books that keep on adding up with time.
The first NFTs were scheduled to release on August 19, August 20, and August 21 for Marvel Comics #1, Journey Into Mystery #85, and Fantastic Four #1 respectively.
Each comic holds significance to Marvel’s history due to the legendary moments within the book. Marvel Comics #1 is the first ever comic by Marvel, featuring the first appearance of Marvel characters android Human Torch and Namor the Sub-Mariner.
The Journey Into Mystery #85 is another Marvel legacy that featured the first appearance of Loki, Heimdall, and Asgard. Lastly, Fantastic Four #1 is a revolutionary comic by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby introducing the Fantastic four that marks the beginning of Marvel’s dominance in pop culture.
Marvel and VeVe don’t just stop here, they dropped various other digital collectibles featuring X-Men, The Avengers, The Guardians of The Galaxy, and Black Panther.
The platform also dropped new Digital Comics, New Mutants #87, Invincible Iron Man #118, Amazing Spider-Man #194, and Vengeance #1 in May 2022, with five cover rarities.
Doctor Strange: Eye of Agamotto
Doctor Strange fans didn’t miss out on the Marvel drop on April 28, 2022, for the Eye of Agamotto, a powerful relic used by Stephen Strange to control the flow of time. The mystical item holds so much power that one must have it, so Marvel granted this wish by realizing its own collection.
Eye of Agamotto features 3 main items in premium digital format each with thousands of editions that are a perfect replica of the item you see in the movie. The collection went live globally on the VeVe app at a listing price of $70 in a blind box.
Currently, these rare items are worth hundreds of dollars in the secondary market.

Each collectible has different editions and rarity traits ranging from common to ultra rare.
Pixar Pals
“I can’t stop Andy from growing up, but I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” We all grew up with Woody but Disney doesn’t want us to forget him yet. VeVe introduces Pixar Pals featuring iconic characters from the Pixar universe.
If you’re a fan of Pixar Animation Studios movies, this collection is made just for you. Pixar Pals is a collection of 54,995 units launched on March 13, 2022. Since its release, the collection has managed to earn around a total of 3.3 million dollars within days.
The collection includes characters like Woody from Toy Story, Lightning McQueen from Cars (2006), The House from Up movie, The Incredibles, Monster, Inc., Wall-E, BRAVE, Ratatouille, and many more.
All characters have different rarity distributions, e.g. Woody is a “common” trait with 13,999 editions while Edna has 6,999 editions and falls under the “ultra rare” trait. People who have ultra rare NFTs hold a more valuable digital asset.
Since Pixar Pals were also sold through the VeVe app using the GoChain network, the collectibles were minted in a Blind box with a mint price of around $60, which later increased to more than $350.
Disney Villains
We were all fans of superheroes as a kid but later grew up to like its villains too. Disney Villains collection features the most feared bad guys.
The collection is designed with precise cunningness in a 3D emoji-style digital art that can become perfect sinister treachery to include in a collector’s NFT collection.
Series 1 features villains Urusala from Little Mermaid, Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, The Queen from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and Jafar from Aladdin.
Each NFT belongs to a class and has unique rarity traits that make them valuable in the market.
Launched on 23 April 2022 in a blind box, all editions of Disney Villains were completely sold as soon as the collection went live at a list price of $20 on the VeVe app.
The fans were thrilled to own the sinister characters that once terrorized them in their dreams in the form of emoji-like collectibles.
Until now, only Series 1 has been released. Many speculate that the company might drop another series within this collection.
Marvel Digital Comics releases Young Avengers #1
Marvel Digital Comics recently dropped Young Avengers series #1 on June 30, 2022. The collection features original comics with five rarity covers sold in blind box format.
Disney has been making an effort to showcase its original characters in the form of various NFT collections.
Having IP rights to thousands of famous characters since the last century, the company is now bringing them to the blockchain world through various series of collections such as Golden Moments, Pixar Pals, The Mickey Mouse NFT Collection, Marvel Mightys, Disney Villains, and Marvel Digital Comics.
Marvel Digital Comics. which operates under Disney, has released various original and rare digital comic book series of famous Marvel characters.
This time, Marvel Digital Comics launched the comic book series of Young Avengers published in 2005. The first series features Hulkling and Wiccan with rare cover art designed by professional creators.
These collectibles have five different rarities with 30,000 editions. The rarities are ranked from ultra-rare to common. The release also features VeVe-Exclusive Rare & Ultra Rare covers designed by Jan Bazaldua & Rachelle Rosenberg.

Where & How to buy a Disney NFT?
As mentioned above, Disney is the official partner of VeVe to release its digital collectibles. All the existing and upcoming drops will happen on VeVe only.
You can easily download the app from the iOS or Google store. It is user-friendly and doesn’t require much effort to surf through your favorite collections or mint the newest drops.
How to purchase GEMS?
GEMS are the native currency of the VeVe marketplace. However, they don’t hold any exchange value. Once you convert your money into GEMS, you cannot convert them back to a fiat currency. The platform has claimed it is currently working on it.
In order to buy Disney NFTs, you need to have GEMS in your account. The following is a step-by-step guide on how to buy them:
- Open the VeVe app
- Click on Profile at the bottom right of your device’s screen
- Select Wallet. If you’re a new user, you will need to purchase GEMS. Such as 1 GEM = 1 USD.
- Click on the Add more GEMS option and tap on the up arrow to increase the amount you want to have in your wallet.
- Select Buy Now and connect your credit card. Once you have entered all the details and amounts added to the app, you will see a Transaction Successful window.
How to Buy:
Once you have enough tokens in your wallet, you are ready to mint an NFT. Here’s how to do it:
- Open the VeVe app
- Click on Store at the bottom left of your screen
- You will see many NFTs displayed on the page. All of them are mostly sold out, so you cannot mint any of the previous ones. If you open the VeVe app during the drop you can snag one easily.
- Go to Coming Soon and see all the upcoming drops. You can pick any of them and turn on alerts.
- As soon as VeVe drops a collection, you will receive a notification or you can view it by clicking on Latest Drop
- Tap on Buy to make the transaction from your wallet.
- Once the transaction is successful, you will receive the NFT in a blind box.
- Click on Collection at the bottom beside the Store. Here you can open the box to reveal your collectible.
These collectibles are most likely to sell out within minutes of their drop, so we recommend putting up reminders on your phone to not miss the date.
VeVe secondary market
Buyers can also buy these digital items from the VeVe secondary market. Go to the Market at the bottom of your screen beside Profile. Here you will see various NFTs on sale.
Before making a purchase, you should also be aware of the secondary market fees. The app charges a 6% licensor fee and an existing VeVe 2.5% secondary market fee.
How much is Disney NFT worth?
The minimum price for these collectibles is $30 while the highest prices can go above $5,000 in the secondary market.
Based on the recent drops, VeVe sells all Disney NFTs at the same price in a blind box for equal distribution.
Since the company is a well-known international brand with millions of fans, its NFT worth is also quite promising. Every drop sells out within minutes of its release, and all the previous NFTs have doubled from the original price in the secondary market.
This factor has drawn many investors to spend thousands of dollars to buy these digital collectibles.
One of the recent examples is from an investor who spent around 6,000 GEMS ($6,000) to buy from the drops and secondary market solely because they are a good investment.
Disney to expand its NFT endeavors
With the NFT collections dropping every month, the company is ready to expand its reach into the Web3 industry.
In February 2022, the company posted job openings for a business development manager to “help lead Disney’s efforts in the Web3 space.” Many news outlets believed that this job posting indicated Disney is very serious about taking over the digital collectible industry.
Although the company’s representatives haven’t commented anything about Disney’s future endeavors regarding Web3, the Burbank-based media house has hinted at creating a theme-park metaverse.
“Curiouser and curiouser!”: Is Disney creating a metaverse?
Disney World is ready to enter the virtual world with its very theme-park metaverse. Like how Alice entered Wonderland through the looking glass, Disney world is creating its own Wonderland.
The visitors will enter a space “where physical and digital worlds converge, with wearables, smartphones, and digital access points immersing the guests in the metaverse experiences.” Tilak Mandadi, former head of digital and technology for Disney parks explains.
Through the looking-glass: the 3D simulator
According to Business Insider, the company will introduce “headsetless Augmented Reality,” which means visitors will view 3D images and virtual effects in the physical Disney World through a device.
Recently, the US Patent Office report showed that it approved Disney’s proposal for a “virtual-world simulator” last December, indicating that the House of Mouse is in talks about switching from 2D to 3D world.
The company aims to bring the “three-dimensional canvas,” a “next-gen storytelling” by personalizing the experience of every visitor through the latest technology. Furthermore, it will also launch a virtual theme park so those who haven’t visited the place can experience it digitally.
At the Q4 earnings conference last year, Disney’s current CEO, Bob Chapek said, “Our efforts to date are merely a prologue to a time when we’ll be able to connect the physical and digital worlds even more closely, allowing for storytelling without boundaries in our own Disney metaverse.”
Metaverse might take time
The company hasn’t officially announced any further developments on this project. According to LA Times, officials told the newspaper that they don’t plan on using the simulator anytime soon. Disney files many patents every year to explore various possibilities through emerging technology.
The company might be testing its waters with the 3D simulator before its official launch. Many limitations come their way to make it perfect such as the high cost and wearable weight.
Currently, the 3D simulator is only available through headsets like Oculus, so if Disney does introduce a 3D simulator, the visitors will feel uncomfortable wearing headsets to experience it.
Nonetheless, seeing the increasing revenue worth of metaverse, it might consider launching this project sooner than expected.
Conclusion
Blockchain technology has opened doors for Disney to launch many projects on the platform without worrying about the unauthorized use of their intellectual property.
Not only does it gather all the fans on one platform but it is also an exhibit to remember the long history and heritage of a century-old media house.
As other Web3 brands try to build their own Disney, the company is already a step ahead in revolutionizing the Web3 world. Having some of the best-animated series, the media company will soon dominate the Web3 industry completely.
