Decentralization: Blockchain websites operate on decentralized networks, which means they don’t rely on central servers and traditional domain names like .com or .org. Instead, they use blockchain-based domain systems (e.g., Ethereum Name Service or Handshake) or decentralized storage protocols (e.g., InterPlanetary File System or IPFS). This makes it difficult for traditional search engine crawlers to access and index their content.
Lack of Web Crawlers: Traditional search engines like Google use web crawlers or bots to explore and index the content of websites. These crawlers are not designed to interact with blockchain-based technologies like smart contracts or decentralized storage systems. As a result, they cannot effectively index the content of blockchain websites.
Limited Adoption: Blockchain websites are still relatively new and not as widely adopted as traditional websites. This means that there may be fewer links and references to blockchain websites on the internet, making them less likely to be discovered and indexed by search engines.
With the launch of AI products and tools, Google improvised its own search engine by adding an AI-based algorithm. Similarly, I believe once companies and platforms start onboarding on the blockchain, Google will include blockchain for search engine crawlers as well. After all, Google Cloud is already quite involved in the Web3 industry right now. Who knows, we might also see Google Cloud blockchain in the upcoming years.
The future of the internet is Web3 so it is inevitable for the users and businesses to shift towards blockchain technology. For innovators, this might be a challenge worth fighting for!
