Funko and Warner Brothers have collaborated to sell the “Brave and the Bold” collection consisting of 30,000 NFTs exclusively at Walmart from 7th October onwards. DC fans who purchase the collectible can connect their crypto wallet and claim the NFT online, which is minted on the WAX blockchain.
Maker of the disproportionate humanoid, Funko is moving ahead in the crypto space, partnering with Warner Brothers once more, this time within the lands of crypto and web3. The companies are releasing physical and digital comic book collectible of limited 30,000 pieces exclusively through retail giant Walmart on October 7.
Funko has been releasing NFT components through its “Pop!” series since 2021, and it was in August 2021 when it commenced its digital asset venture with the launch of the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” collection. It allowed fans to buy both the action figures along with an NFT.
This time, fans purchasing DC digital collectible can link their crypto wallet and claim the NFT online, minted on the World Asset eXchange blockchain (WAX). WAX is a network that supports 60 million NFTs including that by Funko, Topps, Atari and other mainstream brands and 30,000 dapps.
“We are thrilled to bring this first-to-market opportunity to the world’s largest mass retailer,” Funko’s chief executive officer, Andrew Perlmutter, said in a press release. “This is an opportunity to create an easy entryway for shoppers to own digital collectibles featuring fan-favorite brands and characters.”
Warner Bros head of NFT commercial development, Josh Hackbarth, also added, “To bring this new collection of digital collectibles to retail will allow for an even broader reach and invite fans – both avid collectors and those that are entering the space for the first time, the opportunity to engage, physically and digitally, with beloved franchises, like DC.”
An Important Move In Routine Merchandise Shopping
This collaboration of both companies marks a significant development in the NFT industry, featuring a glorious moment; where the technology and everyday purchases integrate and enter the mainstream environment. The move enabled collectors to secure their physical momentos while seeking an additional NFT bonus item.
We believe this partnership will be blooming in the crypto world since it lost hype in 2021. Moreover, the timing of the release could not have been better for the crypto world. On 17th September, DC fans celebrated Batman Day, to remember the “world’s greatest detective.” Hence, having a phygital collection release at almost the same time brings a smile to hardcore DC fans.
