Mark Zuckerberg-led Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is investing heavily in the metaverse despite the company losing billions of dollars in the last 12 months. Meta has been developing a VR-based social media platform, and now it aims to bring a slice of the metaverse to its other family of apps, including Facebook and Instagram.
What is Meta Horizon Worlds?
Meta Horizon Worlds is a virtual world that offers a fully decentralized and immersive experience for its users. The platform allows users to create and customize their own avatars and explore various interconnected virtual worlds within the metaverse. Users can interact with each other in real-time, engage in various activities, participate in events and games, and even own virtual land within the virtual world.
How is it coming to Facebook and Instagram?
Meta has announced that it is starting to test the ability to share photos and videos from Horizon Worlds to Instagram and Facebook Stories. At present, this feature is only available to about 50% of users, and Meta plans to expand it to more people throughout May. Users can share content to Stories by selecting one or more images or videos from the Media Gallery and then opening the share icon. They can then choose Instagram or Facebook Stories as the sharing destination and click share.
In a blog post, Meta stated that it hopes sharing to Stories will be fun and easy, and the company can’t wait to see what users create. This move is part of Meta’s broader plan to create a metaverse that is accessible to everyone, and it seems that the company is making significant progress in this direction.
