The NFT collection featured original BBMAs trophies in the form of digital collectibles to commemorate the winners of the 2022 Billboard Music Awards.
Billboard, the world-renowned American music and entertainment media news company, held its 2022 Billboard Music Awards on May 15, 2022, hosted by global superstar Sean “Diddy” Combs gathering artists from all over the world to celebrate music and talent.
Unlike previous award shows, this year’s BBMAs was quite special as it partnered with Pepsi to release its first-ever live minting NFT collection. Before this collection, Pepsi has partnered many times with Billboard for various events and already released its own Pepsi Mic Drop NFT genesis collection featuring 1,893 uniquely generated NFTs.
The collaboration between Pepsi and Billboard marked a new era of technology in the music and entertainment industry.
“Pepsi has a deep-rooted heritage in music, so our partnership with Billboard to create the Pepsi Mic Drop x Billboard Music Awards Winners Club NFT Collection is a great reflection of our ongoing desire to connect with fans that share our unapologetic love of music,” said Todd Kaplan, Chief Marketing Officer of Pepsi.
PepsiMicDrop x BBMAs “Winners’ Club” NFT Collection was a huge success as BBMAs viewers from all around the world were able to mint a unique yet valuable NFT exclusively live and free while enjoying performances by their favorite artists.
What is the PepsiMicDrop x BBMAs Winners’ Club NFT collection?
PepsiMicDrop x BBMAs Winners’ Club is a limited edition NFT collection available on the Billboard ChartStars, an NFT-based artists-focused digital asset platform built on an eco-friendly Flow blockchain. Anyone who watched the BBMAs was welcome to claim this NFT for free after registering on the official website.
“For the first time, music fans will have the opportunity to be forever linked to their favorite artists, by sharing ownership of a moment in time tied to the 2022 Billboard Music Awards,” said Mike Van, Head of Global Brand Partnerships at Billboard.
The viewers were required to mint their NFTs for a limited time of 20 minutes after each award was presented. The live minting stopped after the BBMAs ended, and only those who claimed NFTs during the award took home the valuable NFT.
According to various sources, PepsiMicDrop x BBMAs’ “Winners’ Club” NFT Collection was an attempt to bring global music fans into the NFT industry and to introduce a new concept of prompting NFTs through the award show. So, in a way, last night was a celebration of music, art, and technology altogether.
Pepsi Mic Drop Moment
In addition to exclusive NFTs featuring BBMAs categories, Billboard also announced it would broadcast a Pepsi Mic Drop Moment honoring one artist or group who achieved a unique success on the Billboard Hot 100.
“Every year the Billboard Music Awards fuels the cultural conversation through the power of live event television,” said Adam Stotsky, President, MRC Live & Alternative. “we’re so proud to integrate Pepsi into our show for a special Pepsi Mic Drop Moment that can’t be missed and for fans to have the opportunity to own a piece of it.”
Billboard previously revealed it would drop a QR code of Pepsi Mic Drop Moment during the BBMAs that fans could redeem to see who was the winner. During the show, Pepsi finally revealed the long-awaited winner, Glass Animals, as the featured group for the Pepsi Mic Drop Moment. Glass Animals’ famous song “Heat Waves” became a massive hit on the Billboard chart rewarding it with an exclusive NFT by Pepsi.
The fans who scanned the QR code for a limited time were able to claim this precious moment in the form of an NFT.
After the event, many NFT enthusiasts revealed redeemed NFTs from the PepsiMicDrop x BBMAs NFT collection. The NFTs featured the award-focused NFTs ranging from the Top R&B artist, Top Rap female artist, and Top Rock artist, to Top Hot 100 song. See the full NFT collection here.
