Yosuke Matsuda, the President of Square Enix, the famous Japanese entertainment company, recently shared his New Year Resolution of 2023 stating that the team will continue expanding into Web3 by adopting blockchain technology and NFTs in its upcoming games.
In the letter released on January 1, Matsuda says he wants to focus on blockchain entertainment. Widely known for being the creator of Final Fantasy, the company is ready to take another step after seeing the rising popularity of Web3.
”I think it is fair to say that blockchain gained significant recognition as a field in 2022 as evidenced by “Web 3.0” becoming a firmly established buzzword among businesspeople,” he said.
Gaming NFTs have gained much popularity in 2022 as people poured their money into play-to-earn games. Based on this year’s business plan, there will be “three focus investment fields” for Square Enix with blockchain gaming being the central goal, created under the vision of a decentralized ecosystem
President Matsuda also shared that some NFT projects with original IPs are already in development since 2022 and will soon be unveiled to the world. The Japanese company will also focus on investment aspects.
He ended the letter by saying:
“We will drive our businesses forward with the goal of making 2023 a year of major evolution and transformation.”
