Australian Football League (AFL) signs a five-year agreement with Animoca Brands, a venture capitalist, to expand its reach in metaverse and NFTs. AFL’s Web3 brand, AFL Mint will be releasing a limited edition of NFTs for AFL and AFLW (Australian Football League Women’s) in the coming weeks.
The sports industry is rapidly adopting the NFTs and metaverse as a means to connect with their fans. In Australia, AFL seems to be the first football team to sign with an NFT brand for metaverse expansion.
AFL Mint is a brand and marketplace by AFL that will focus on the Web3 aspect of the team by utilizing Animoca’s immersive ecosystem for gaming, virtual reality, and digital art.
AFL Mint will be releasing the first limited edition NFT collection exclusively for AFL fans to collect on its own marketplace. Just like NBA Top Shot, AFL Mint will also become a proper platform for football fans.
As of now, the beta version of AFL Mint has been released where fans can register to get afirst notification once AFL officially drops NFTs. This limited edition collection is special for AFL fans as holders will receive various benefits including ticket upgrades, hospitality, experiential zones, and exclusive merchandise.
