A Bored Ape NFT will now be a representative virtual athlete for Major League Soccer, the official football league of the US. Recently, the team bought and signed Bored Ape #6045, now known as Striker, as reported by nft now.
Major League Soccer made the huge investment which cost them 100 ETH, previously bought for 8.45 ETH in 2021 by the previous owner. This Bored Ape has risen to become a valuable digital collectible for every football fan.
Just as the name suggests, he will be a virtual striker to be revealed for the first time at MLS’ All-Star Game on August 10, 2022. He will play on the virtual pitch as a striker and is set to steal the show at the event.
Major League Soccer has been taking bold steps into the NFT space. They recently dropped the first NFT collection and even partnered with Sorare NFT platform to launch a fantasy football game.
With Striker, the soccer league has opened up a new possibility for other sports teams who have already dropped their own NFT initiatives, e.g. FC Barcelona sold an NFT artwork of a legendary goal by Johan Cruyff sold for $693,000. NFTs can now become the representatives or stars of the team, expanding the utility and benefits for fans as well.
