is building a virtual skatepark on The Sandbox

Tony Hawk, a famous American skateboarder, is ready to hit the metaverse. According to the official press release, Hawk is building a virtual skatepark on metaverse by partnering with The Sandbox, an online game and metaverse platform built on the Ethereum blockchain.

The Sandbox is a well-known virtual space where many celebrities and brands are slowly launching their specialized corners by buying virtual lands with cryptocurrency.

In the official press release, the company released details that The Sandbox has partnered with Tom Hawk Inc. and Autograph to build “the largest virtual skatepark ever made” on Tony Hawk’s 6x6 LAND.

Autograph will create NFTs based on Hawk’s avatars and legendary skateboards, including a replica of the skateboard that made him the first person to land a 900 in the X Games 1999.

The NFT collection will be available for fans to mint from the marketplace and try out on the skatepark on The Sandbox.

“I have been a fan of new technology all of my life – from the first videogames and home computers with CGI capabilities – so I am fascinated by the metaverse, and excited to bring our culture into the virtual landscape of The Sandbox,” said Tony Hawk.

“There’s no better way to bring skateboarding culture to The Sandbox than by following the example of the greatest skateboarder of all time, whose legacy stretches from the sport and lifestyle’s early days to the present and beyond,” says the Co-founder of The Sandbox, Sebastien Borget.
