Ukraine sells its CryptoPunk for $100K to fund its defense

Ukraine finally sold the donated CryptoPunk #5364 NFT for $100K to fund its defense against Russia.  The NFT was donated by the crypto community as part of the Aid For Ukraine campaign in early March to help Ukrainians at war.

On June 20th, Alex Bornyakov, the country’s deputy minister of digital transformation, announced that Ukraine had successfully sold CryptoPunk#5364 to an unknown buyer for 99 ETH, which is $100,000 in US dollars.

The country had been trying to sell the valuable NFT when the crypto prices went high, but eventually sold it for

Ukraine was attacked by Russia in February causing a massive breakout on international markets. As a result, the crypto community stepped up to aid Ukraine in its defense against the invading country.

According to Fortune, Ukraine has collected almost $900 million in funds as of April 2022 from all around the world, and $135M in the form of crypto funds. The biggest amount it earned from crypto was from its single sale of Ukraine Flag NFT for $6.75M.

As the situation continues to worsen, countries and communities all around the world are making efforts to help Ukraine defend itself from Russia.
