After wisdomtree’s most recent change to the form s-1 spot bitcoin etf, only franklin templeton and global x have yet to make changes to their s-1 filings.
Wisdomtree, a global exchange-traded fund (etf) provider, sent the us securities and exchange commission (sec) an updated form s-1 spot bitcoin (btc) etf document on november 16.
The update comes a few months after wisdomtree resubmitted its spot bitcoin etf application in june 2023. This time, it asked the chicago board options exchange (cboe) to change the rules so that shares of the wisdomtree bitcoin trust could be listed and traded on the bzx exchange.
The updated prospectus says that the wisdomtree bitcoin trust etf will trade with the symbol btcw. NftStudio24 custody trust will hold all of the trust’s bitcoin as the custodian.
James seyffart, an analyst for bloomberg etfs, says that wisdomtree’s updated form s-1 spot bitcoin etf filing shows that the company is still planning to launch an etf and is talking to the sec about the chance.
“Issuers thought they would have to file one of these in order to possibly launch their etf at some point.” it’s just one step in the process. Seyffart wrote on x (formerly twitter), “Nothing important.”
Erik balchunas, a bloomberg etf expert, noticed that wisdomtree took “Long enough” to make changes to its form s-1 bitcoin etf file. “Please tell me the sec isn’t going to wait until all s-1s are updated before putting out a second set of comments,” he said.
According to seyffart’s records, franklin templeton and global x are the only two spot bitcoin etf filers in the u.S. That have not yet changed their s-1 files with the sec.
Franklin templeton awaits the nov. 17 date for its first spot in the bitcoin etf. Hashdex’s date was also set for november 17, but the sec changed it to january 1, 2024, a few days ago.
Another company, global x, hasn’t changed its s-1 file yet either. Its second-place bitcoin etf due date is november 21.
According to seyffart and other bloomberg etf experts, the sec is likely to put off making choices about upcoming dates again soon. Seyffart, on the other hand, still thinks that the delays won’t change his opinion that the sec will approve a spot bitcoin etf before the end of january 2024.
