Words By A Popular Crypto Youtube Account Holder:
A youtube account holder, Michael Gu, reported to Cointelegraph that His youtube channel, Boxminig uploaded a video without his knowledge. He said that:
“Fortunately, we caught it within two minutes of the video going live and instantly removed it.”
He further added that:
“By that time, there were already views and comments from my community members.”
Furthermore, he said he had done an internal cleaning and hadn’t found any viruses and bugs that allowed the hackers to access his account. He added that it “seems like youtube might be responsible.”
Reddit User Opinion About Famous Crypto Youtube Accounts Hacking:
A Reddit user “9Oh8m8” post suggests that it seems although the hackers were capable of acquiring access to the accounts through a sim swap scam. Which would have allowed them to bypass two-factor authentication or 2FA.
User’s Reddit Post:
“They are all posting with a title like “ONE WORLD CRYPTOCURRENCY.” They have an address in vid and description to send your USDT/USDC/BNB/ETH to receive new crypto called OWCY.”
But the YouTuber, Gu, responded that he is not agreed that the hack was due to the sim swap scam, informing Cointelegraph that there was no login attempt found on his google account. “In case it is a sim swap, I lose access to my phone. And that didn’t occur.”
“What we noticed was on the BRAND account (which doesn’t have a login. YouTube brand accounts are connected to personal) there was a login from the Philippines. This is likely either a hack on the YouTube site or a rogue employee. That’s how they got so many people at the same time.”
Founder And CEO Of Altcoin Buzz Youtube Channel:
Shah Gupta, the founder, and CEO of Altcoin Buzz youtube Channel stated that they noticed unusual activity on Sunday night at 1:00 am Singapore time (5:00 pm UTC ). When an unauthorized video was posted to their channel.
