Everyone thought Snoop Dogg came to the NFT NYC 2022 conference but it was just an impersonator hired by a crypto startup, Fair.xyz, according to The Guardian report. The impersonator walked around the streets of New York and people actually got fooled by it becoming a successful brand advertisement for Fair.xyz. The real Snoop Dogg gave a surprise performance at the ApeFest 2022 with Eminem.
NFT conference this year has brought new ways to advertise your brands, and one of them is to fool everyone, which is ironic because, throughout the year, various NFT projects turned out to be rugpulls or frauds stealing millions of dollars from the investors. But for The Hundreds, the startup that organized a fake hate protest on NFTs, it’s a reverse attempt to grab people’s attention.

Clearly, the Snoop Dogg impersonator was quite successful in grabbing the attention of many people trying to get a selfie thinking it was the American rapper himself. Widely known for his involvement with various NFT projects, everyone thought he genuinely came to attend the conference but the real Snoop Dogg was somewhere else.
Doop Snogg makes headlines
People were so enticed by the thought of seeing Snoop Dogg that they forgot to see the name tag of “Doop Snogg” written. According to The Guardian report, the startup made an overnight decision to hire a Snoop Dogg impersonator as a way to stand out from other NFT startups at the NFT NYC 2022 conference.
They contacted a person who completely transformed into a real Snoop Dogg with a fake mustache stuck above his mouth, the same glasses, and even stuffed paper in his shoes to make him look taller.
The Fair.xyz team became his staff members, with one acting as a security guard and the co-founder acting as paparazzi holding a flash camera. They even went to the extent of renting a Cadillac Escalade SUV for Doop Snogg to ride in.
People fan over the fake Snoop Dogg
As soon as Doop Snogg hit the streets, people started gathering around him. No one really looked at him closely but just assumed he was the real thing. According to the crypto startup’s representative, they initially wanted to hire a Justin Bieber impersonator but they decided to hire Snoop Dogg because of his involvement with NFTs.
Nevertheless, the Doop Snogg clearly made headlines with people posting selfies with him. Even now, there are dozens of Tweets with captions like “I met Snoop Dogg!” or “Glad to see Snoop Dogg at the conference!” not knowing it was the Doop Snogg actually.
“Literally within a minute, you’ve got 50 people near us, 100 people near us, plugging their project, throwing business cards after us. It was intense. We just had to keep moving or else we were just going to get swamped,” said Justin Burke, the marketing director of Fair.xyz.
The tweet above shows that a lot of people gathered around the superstar impersonator without an inch of suspicion from any of them.
Snoop Dogg notices Doop Snogg
To make it even funnier, Snoop Dogg himself saw the tweets surfing around the internet of his impersonator. A well-known reporter tweeted how he tried taking an interview but the team told him that he was just an imposter. Later, Snoop Dogg retweeted a tweet with the caption “Doop Snogg” bringing laughter to the NFT community.
Clearly, the stunt pulled by the crypto startup was a complete success. Although the team didn’t ask for permission from the real Snoop Dogg, it still became a center of talk between NFT and Snoop Dogg fans.
The real Snoop Dogg performs at ApeFest 2022
According to various reports, the real Snoop Dogg did attend the NFT NYC 2022 conference. He made a surprise entrance with Eminem at ApeFest organized by BAYC and MAYC to perform in front of a huge crowd.
In his upcoming collaboration for a dessert cafe based on his NFT Dr. Bombay also rode around the streets of New York, serving ice cream to the attendees. For Snoop Dogg fans the trip to NFT NYC 2022 turned out to be exciting with the superstar making an appearance at ApeFest 2022.
Regarding his performance with Eminem, the duo just dropped a new single ‘From the D 2 the LBC’ with a poster featuring Bored Apes owned by both rappers.
Final words
The Snoop Dogg impersonator was clearly an experienced person who knew how to act like the real rapper to fool people out of it. Many people didn’t realize that it was actually Doop Snogg NFT until a few news articles reported on it on Twitter.
The Fair.xyz team was successful with their advertisement and became the talk of the town even for a little. Even now, the crypto startup is being mentioned all around the world by news articles. All in all, it clearly accomplished its goal to stand out from other NFT projects.
