Ethereum The Merge, coming in September, has deployed its third and last testnet, Goerli, today. The testnet was successfully completed as the network switched from the Proof of Work (PoW) consensus model to the Proof of Stake(PoS).
The much-anticipated event of the year is coming closer than ever. The Ethereum community showed its excitement as ETH prices shot 14% high in the last 24 hours. Overall, the crypto market collectively seems to be showing positive vibes today.
The Goerli testnet is the last update before Ethereum officially deploys The Merge on the mainnet. The blockchain has been working on the merge since last year and successfully completed all three stages of the testnet.
These tests were necessary to ensure that no bugs or errors exist before they are officially released in the world. The Merge began with its first testnet called Ropsten in June, then the Sepolia testnet in July.
The Goerli testnet had two phases. The first phase had two steps, Bellatrix deployed on August 4, and the second update Paris happened today after Terminal Total Difficulty (TTD) hit 10,790,000 on the Goreli chain.
The second phase is the execution layer to PoS that happened today, making it a complete success and ready for mainnet.
The Merge is basically Ethereum going from PoW to PoS to save energy, gas fee, and improve its whole ecosystem.
